Editor, Times-Union: Sometimes I am amazed at where you can resource information. For two or three years I have been trying to warn Middle East war veterans of the imminent danger of depleted uranium poisoning. I have passed out CDs, contacted my congressman, contacted the American Legion national headquarters about this problem. No one has yet acknowledged the problem. The only one who has listened is the local liaison with the VA who did hear me out. However, as far as I know, that’s as far as it went. So it was quite amazing that on viewing the latest James Bond film (“Skyfall”) that Bond had been hit with fragments from depleted uranium ammunition. After the small bits were extracted and analyzed, he was told that he was quite fortunate that a complete depleted uranium bullet had not lodged in his body or he would be soon dead. This is an infection that doesn’t go away and can cause major problems for Iraq and Afghanistan veterans “who are exposed along with millions of Middle Easterners and Eastern Europeans to this poison. The longer the government and the general public keep their head in the sand, the worse this will get. Hundreds of thousands of veterans are infected, which results in a whole gamut of severe problems: Suicides, preoccupation with suicide, paranoia and violence against close associates including family. Do you remember how the government desperately tried to cover up agent orange? Well, this is 1,000 times worse. Check out the Legacy of Treason on the web. Tom Metzger Warsaw, via e-mail
