No one was injured in a Saturday morning crash in downtown Warsaw, but a vehicle flipped on its side and the other caught on fire.
According to the crash report, at 6:48 a.m. Saturday Warsaw police arrived at the intersection of Detroit and Main streets and found Daniel L. Thompson, 30, Churubusco, trapped in his brown 2012 Chevrolet Equinox that had flipped onto its left side.
Thompson had to be extricated from the vehicle by Warsaw-Wayne Fire Territory firefighters. He complained of lower leg pain and a head injury but declined medical treatment on scene.
Police investigation determined Thompson was traveling north on Detroit Street and witnesses said he ran a red light, which resulted in white 2004 Chevrolet Traverse, driven by Tammy L. Shepherd, 48, East Fort Wayne Street, Warsaw, colliding into the right side of Thompson’s SUV.
Shepherd was traveling west on East Main Street and had a green light, both she and witnesses told police, according to the crash report.
After the crash, Shepherd’s vehicle caught on fire in the engine compartment, but she and her passenger, Josef C. Shepherd, 23, were able to get out uninjured.
Airbags had deployed in Shepherd’s vehicle, police reported.
Both vehicles were towed from the scene, and police estimated damage between $25,000 and $50,000.
