When Loren Plotner, of Bluewater Drive on the north side of Pike Lake, caught a small largemouth bass, he had no idea what would follow. The heron pictured above attempted to grab the bass and instead hooked itself on Plotner's lure. Conservation officer Dave Anderson was summoned to the scene where he worked for a consideral amount of time to corral the bird and remove the lure. The rescue attempt ended unsuccesfully, however, when Plotner's fishing line broke and bird escaped. Photo by Gary Nieter, Times-Union
