United Way of Kosciusko County pacesetters for 2003 have again educated their employees about United Way.

The United Way theme this year is "Caribbean Soul." Each pacesetter focused on a different creative path to motivate their employees and learn about United Way.

Wal-Mart ran their campaign July 25 led by Candy Fancil. The main focus of their campaign was to educate their employees at every level of the company about what United Way really does for this community.

The department managers, dressed in hula skirts, held store meetings in the training room decorated in a tropical theme. Party trays were served as each shift learned about United Way and the assistance offered with the programs currently funded.

They also had a carry-in Hawaiian dinner for the employees and the employees wore Hawaiian shirts and shorts on July 25. It was a positive, festive "day of celebration" for all. Wal-Mart had a goal of increasing participation and education.

National City Bank has 21 Pacesetting branches in northern Indiana that will be participating in its campaign this year. Because there are so many locations, National City Bank ran its campaign for 1 month, ending Aug. 20. Every employee learned about United Way and how the funded programs help people in our community. Any employee that participated by giving one hour of pay per month received one paid day off and an additional four hours paid time off as a special thank-you for their generosity. Any branch with 100 percent of one-hour participation received a catered pizza party.

Also, employees received the right to wear jeans on the last Friday of every month in 2004 and to be entered into a drawing to receive an additional catered lunch. National City employees also received a $10 Subway gift certificate.

Home Care and Hospice started its campaign Aug. 13, headed by Kathy Simpson, educating its employees about United Way and giving them the opportunity to participate in helping our community raise money. Everyone who chose to participate received a candy bar and got their name entered into the drawing for numerous prizes donated by local companies and a paid day off. On Aug. 21, Hospice held its "Road Rally Treasure Hunt" throughout Warsaw. Employees followed clues to different locations for more clues. The finish line was at a nice restaurant for a thank-you dinner.

United Way of Kosciusko County thanks all pacesetters and recognizes their efforts in making their United Way campaigns fun, innovative and educational for their employees.
