Uncle Sam's Taxes

Posted
Editor, Times-Union:

I would like if the public would take a good look at the idea of doing away with our present income tax and raise 1 or 2 percent (whatever) to our state tax, to equal the amount our present one brings in now. I am thinking 1 percent will do the job.

I think also such would be a more fair tax. I think I have heard rich people do not own a home in our country, but overseas. Then rent in our country. Maybe rent money is deductible, I am not sure.

As I understand many do not pay any federal tax. The states collect the money and send it to Uncle Sam. I think Uncle Sam would get more that way. As I understand some people pay no income tax for years and then hire a lawyer to settle for a lot less then the original amount. Uncle Sam does not then get his fair share. What do you think?
