Two Workers Suffer Electrical Shocks, Burns

Posted

Two employees of a South Bend electrical contractor were injured Sunday in an accident at Dalton Foundries in Warsaw.

Information regarding what caused the employees to suffer burns, possibly from being shocked, was not available from Dalton or from H&G Services as of press time.

A representative of H&G confirmed today that two of its employees were injured. Douglas Block, 47, of South Bend, and Robert Allsop, 23, of Walkerton, were airlifted from Kosciusko Community Hospital to St. Joseph Hospital Regional Burn Center in Fort Wayne.

Emergency crews were called to Dalton shortly before 2 p.m. Sunday. One of the two injured was transported to KCH by Multi-Township Emergency Medical Service ambulance and the other was taken to the hospital by private vehicle.

Warsaw Fire Department assisted in the building with lights after the accident caused a temporary power outage and it wasn't immediately known whether everyone inside was accounted for.

Steve Shaffer, a vice president at Dalton, said Dalton is trying to determine what caused the accident. The H&G employees were at the Warsaw business performing preventive electrical work, such as checking transmitters, Shaffer said, and were possibly injured from a flash from an electrical box. However, the exact cause of the accident was under investigation this morning.
