MENTONE - With two new board members, the Tippecanoe Valley School Corp. Board of Trustees reorganized Monday.
Rod Eaton was voted school board president, Mark Wise as vice president and Tom Weaver, secretary.
The new board members, Dave O'Brien and Hal Hoffman, are replacing Fred McSherry and Bruce Andrews.
Deb Baumgardner was appointed as treasurer and Linda Murphy, deputy treasurer.
The meetings were set to be held at 7 p.m. December through March and at 7:30 p.m. April through November.
Francisco Negreros, M.D., was approved as the corporation's physician.
In other business, the school board:
• Approved $20,000 for maintenance director Larry Sanders to address the air conditioning needs of Burket Elementary.
• Recognized Brenda Fields and Paula Foltz, Mentone Elementary, for receiving "Heart of Gold" awards from Kosciusko County Foundation. For their award, Foltz received a $50 check to be given to a nonprofit organization. She donated it to Mentone Elementary School for books. The donation was approved by the school board.
Also recognized were Susan Davis, Joyce Krieger, Debb Lee, Pam McFarland, Janet Morgan, Dianne Pearson and Brett Boggs, Akron Elementary, for being selected to participate in team planning with the Literacy Collaborative at Purdue University for five sessions this fall.
• Approved book rental fees for Tippecanoe Valley School Corp. elementaries, the middle school and the high school.
• Approved the contract for Marv Retzer, Mentone Elementary School principal, for two years and 220 days for a salary of $61,500 per year.
• Approved the conflict of interest statements for Dr. Dan Kramer, Eaton and Wise.
• Approved Janet Ford as the technology associate. Ford, who was the administrative assistant, will be replaced by Sherry Adamson. Adamson will receive an annual salary of $27,000 per year with a stipend for school board meetings not to exceed $750.
• Accepted the resignation of Lori Busenburg, varsity softball coach.
• Announced the upcoming board meetings. A budget workshop will be at 7:30 p.m. July 20. The next regular school board meeting is Aug. 14 at 7:30 p.m. The public hearing of the proposed budget is Aug. 21 at 7:30 p.m. The September regular board meeting and budget adoption is Sept. 11 at 7:30 p.m. The school board will have a training retreat on Sept. 18 from 5 to 9 p.m.
Board members are Rod Eaton, Mark Wise, Tom Weaver, Hal Hoffman and Dave O'Brien. They meet the second Monday of every month in the meeting room at Mentone Elementary.
