INDIANAPOLIS -ÊSeveral area swimmers competed in the state swim meet Saturday at the IUPUI Natatorium.
Warsaw led the area teams, placing 37th, while Manchester placed 40th and Wawasee was 50th.
This is the first time Manchester has placed in the team meet in 10 years and only the fourth time in school history.
Two athletes placed 11th at the meet to lead the area finishers. Manchester's Reed Christiansen placed 11th overall in the diving competition with a score of 355.10, while Warsaw's Justin Lowrance placed 11th in the 100 backstroke with a time of 21.89 seconds.
Christiansen was only eight points out of the top eight places. Only 15 points separated fourth through 13th places, and Christiansen made it through the first two rounds of competition easily. A poor score on the his last dive of the day knocked Christiansen out of medal contention.
In the 100 backstroke, Manchester's Rod Smith placed 14th overall with a time of 53.90 seconds and Wawasee's Guy Simmons placed 15th with a time of 54.92 seconds.
Smith's time of 53.90 seconds smashed his previous record of 54.42 seconds from last year.
Wawasee's Adam Brown placed 16th in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:01.54.
Warsaw's 200 medley relay team was 15th overall, finishing the race in 1:41.60.
