Two Lancers Among Crossroads Honorees

AVON, Ohio – The Crossroads League Athletes of the Week, including two from Grace College, were announced on Monday, recognizing the top athletes from the week of Oct. 14-20. Sports Information Directors from the league nominate student-athletes for the award and vote on each week’s winners.

Gina Novotny, Grace

Novotny picked up 57 digs over three matches for the Lancers, helping GC win two of those outings by collecting at least 15 digs in all three contests and averaging 4.75 digs per set.

Bethany Blackwood, Grace

Blackwood posted two shutouts in the goal for No. 17 Grace, picking up four saves in a 2-0 blanking of No. 18 Spring Arbor and adding another in a 4-0 win against Saint Francis.

Kendra Siefring, St. Francis

Siefring set a USF program record with 20 kills and just one error in 21 swings for the RV Cougars in a four-set win over Bethel and closed the week with 3.7 kills per set on a blistering .544 percentage in three Saint Francis victories.

Maria Pelak, St. Francis

Pelak filled the stat sheets in a trio of wins for Saint Francis, averaging 13.5 assists, 2.9 digs, 1.0 kills and 0.2 blocks per set. The All-American tallied 53 assists in a four-set win over Bethel and went for 44 assists and 12 digs in a sweep of Grace.

Jacob Crull, Spring Arbor

Crull erupted for four goals in No. 13 Spring Arbor’s 4-2 win over Grace, posting the first multi-score game of his career. The win helped SAU inch closer to claiming the outright Crossroads League Championship.

Gabe Greenfield, Huntington

Greenfield worked a pair of 2-0 decisions in the net for Huntington, posting five saves between the posts for the Foresters in their wins over Mount Vernon Nazarene and Taylor.

Brown posted seven points over two wins for No. 14 Indiana Wesleyan, registering one goal and one assist in a 2-0 win against RV Taylor, before scoring twice in IWU’s 3-0 victory against Bethel.
