CROMWELL - Two men were jailed and charges are pending against a third man after a fight among the three that sent one to the hospital.
Officers with the Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department were dispatched to a residence in Enchanted Hills at 3:45 a.m. Monday after a call was received of a fight involving baseball bats, knives and at least one gun.
According to a KCSD report, Jason C. Fields, 22, of North Sir Gallahad, Cromwell, suffered head injuries after allegedly being struck in the head with a baseball bat wielded by Jeremiah England, 23, of 203 W. Washington St., Syracuse.
England was charged with battery and booked into the Kosciusko County Jail, where he is being held on $500 bond.
Also charged was Joshua Bruce Obacz, 22, of 9671 E. King Arthur Trail, Cromwell, at whose residence the incident occurred. He is being held in the KCJ on charges of criminal recklessness, disorderly conduct and battery. His bond is set at $500.
Obacz reportedly fired a shotgun outside the residence after Fields allegedly pulled a knife on another person there. Although the weapon used was allegedly a BB gun, four empty 12-gauge shotgun shells were recovered. A shotgun, though, was not located. Police said Obacz's father refused to allow officers to search the home for the weapon without a search warrant.
England told police that Obacz also pointed the shotgun at him several times.
Police also recovered three knives - all at least 8 inches long - from Fields while he was at Kosciusko Community Hospital for treatment. Charges also are pending against Fields, according to Kosciusko County Sheriff Aaron Rovenstine. He was not initially charged because of his injuries. He was later released from the hospital.
The incident remains under investigation.
