A Warsaw teenager suffered a broken leg this morning when the car she was driving struck a tree on CR 900S. According to Sgt. Chad Hill of the Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department, Ashlin Engelhaupt, 16, of CR 600S, was pinned in her car for about an hour before rescue workers were able to free her. Hill said Engelhaupt's car went airborne for 289 feet after crossing the railroad tracks and before hitting the tree. Excessive speed was a factor in the accident, Hill said. Also injured in the 7:30 a.m. accident was Engelhaupt's brother, Jeremy Engelhaupt, 18, of CR 600S. He suffered minor cuts and refused medical attention. Life Med Emergency Medical Service of North Manchester transported Ashlin Engelhaupt to an area hospital, but no information about her condition was available. Both of the teenagers were wearing seat belts and the air bags deployed. The car was totaled. Photo by Gary Nieter, Times-Union
