Two people were arrested and charges are pending against two others after the manager of an apartment complex reported complaints about drug use in one of the residences.
Warsaw police confiscated more than 11 ounces of dry marijuana, an unknown amount of wet marijuana, multiple marijuana pipes and smoking devices and $5,910 from the apartment at 4207 Kuder Lane.
The manager of Kuder Estates contacted police about 11:50 a.m. Monday after a resident complained of smelling the odor of burned marijuana in a hallway. According to a police report, this isn't the first such complaint made to the complex manager.
Arrested were Joel Lopez, 18, of the above address, charged with dealing marijuana, and Edgar Louis Rodriguez, 18, of the same address, charged with possession of marijuana and visiting a common nuisance. Both were booked into the Kosciusko County Jail, where Lopez is being held on $5,000 bond and Rodriguez on $450 bond.
Prior to police entering the apartment, Lopez allegedly tried to put a large amount of marijuana down the kitchen garbage disposal, but the drain apparently became clogged. He then allegedly flushed an unknown quantity of marijuana down the toilet. Debris from the attempts to get rid of the contraband was recovered from the kitchen sink and it was noted that there was unflushed marijuana around the water line in the toilet. Marijuana also was recovered from a trash can.
Another tenant in the apartment told police where they could locate various items of drug paraphernalia and marijuana. The 23-year-old female also told police that she knew Lopez was dealing marijuana from the apartment.
Charges of maintaining a common nuisance are expected against the woman and a 21-year-old man also living in the apartment.
