Two From Cromwell Hospitalized After Head-on Collision FridayNAPPANEE – A Cromwell man and woman were injured and taken to Elkhart General Hospital after a two-car collision late Friday near Nappanee.
The collision happened on U.S. 6 west of CR 11 at 11:33 p.m. Friday.
According to a press release from the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department, Marvin Whitacre, 48, Cromwell, was driving east on U.S. 6 and passed another vehicle, which forced a westbound vehicle driven by Marvin Whitener, 51, of Elkhart, to swerve and lose control.
The Whitener vehicle left the road, then returned going left of center and hit the Whitacre vehicle head-on.
Whitener was thrown from his vehicle and suffered severe head trauma. He was flown to South Bend Memorial Hospital.
Whitacre’s vehicle rotated several times after impact, and he complained of pain to his shoulder from the seat belt. A passenger in the Whitacre vehicle, Jenice Whitacre, 58, Cromwell, complained of rib and spinal pain. Both were taken to Elkhart General Hospital for treatment.
Both Whitacres were wearing seat belts, while Whitener was not, according to the report.
The Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department is investigating the accident.
