Two Bands Set To Perform At Honeywell

Posted
WABASH - Two bands coming to the Ford Theater stage in February will bring with them an extensive history and a wealth of talent in classical music.

Augustana College Symphonic Band is the oldest musical organization on a college campus, and Canadian Brass was named the "world's leading brass ensemble" by The Washington Post.

Sunday at 3 p.m., the Honeywell Center will welcome the Augustana College Symphonic Band. This performance is free with general admission seating and is sponsored by the Paul L. Speicher Foundation.

The 70-member group, led by conductor Dr. James Lambrecht, tours annually with the purpose of enhancing the value of the Augustana Band to both the listener and the institution of which the organization has been a part. Since its inception, the Symphonic Band and its program have grown to include a second band and numerous new performances around the world.

The Wabash Valley Music Association will welcome Canadian Brass Feb. 26 at 7:30 p.m., as they bring their affinity for Baroque music center stage at the Ford Theater.

Having just celebrated its 39th season, the Canadian Brass has a long history of recording classical repertoire. Canadian Brass sprang from modest and highly experimental roots in Toronto, Ontario, in 1970. The brass quintet was not established as a serious ensemble at that time, having started with a very limited base of traditional works for brass, but soon they set out to create their own musical world by transcribing, arranging and commissioning more than 200 works; the most recent being the brilliant Quintet by Michael Kamen.Tickets for Canadian Brass are $15, $25, $35; half-price tickets for youth through high school, and may be purchased at the box office from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, by calling 260-563-1102, visiting www.honeywellcenter.org or by dialing *tix from your Centennial Wireless phone.
