AKRON – Tippecanoe Valley School Corp. is losing one principal but gaining an assistant principal. During its meeting Monday night, the school board approved the resignation of Tippecanoe Valley High School Principal Kirk Doehrmann and the hiring of Cory Cooper as assistant principal at the middle school. Cooper’s official start date is July 1. Doehrmann’s last day with Valley is June 8, but he will only be working at Valley three days a week in May. According to Valley Superintendent Brett Boggs, Doehrmann resigned from Valley to become the new director of business and operations for Whitley County Consolidated Schools. He will be spending two days a week in May at WCCS. The principal’s position at TVHS has been posted for about a month, Boggs said, and applications are being accepted until Friday. An interview committee has been formed to put criteria together for a new principal and conduct interviews, which are scheduled for May 13-14. The committee will select two to three candidates to present to the school board. “We hope to have someone in place by the end of the school year,” Boggs said. Doehrmann has been with Valley for eight years. Cooper is coming to Valley from Franklin, where he was the department chair of engineering and technology at Center Grove High School for the past two years. Before Center Grove, some of his previous schools included Washington, Franklin Community and Central Nine high schools. He earned his administration degree from Indiana Wesleyan University, and his master’s degree from Ball State University. Cooper and his wife, Gwen, have four children. “It was a great opportunity to have a first administration job,” Cooper said of why he wanted the job at Valley. “It’s in the kind of area we wanted to be in and it’s a small school.” At the January school board meeting, with the retirement of Assistant Superintendent Dr. Daniel Kramer effective July 1, Tippecanoe Valley Middle School Principal Blaine Conley was approved to serve as Valley’s new assistant superintendent, with TVMS Assistant Principal Scott Backus taking over the role of principal at the middle school. In other business, the school board: • Approved offering a new class at TVHS, “Health Studies.” The course combines English 10 with health and physical education. All sophomores are required to take all three classes. • Approved hiring Keith Lang as the school district’s technology director. • Presented Peggy Walters with the TVSC Pillar Award for Outstanding Support Staff. She’s been with Valley for 29 years – the first 10 as an instructional assistant, and the last 19 as the treasurer at Akron Elementary. • Announced upcoming meetings will be May 12, Mentone Elementary; and June 9 and July 14 at the administration office. All meetings start at 6:30 p.m.
