TVSC Approves Resurfacing Contract

Posted

MENTONE - Duane Burkhart, Tippecanoe Valley School Corp. athletic director, presented information to school board members Monday about resurfacing Tippecanoe Valley High School's track.

The corporation received one bid for the work from Leslie Coatings Inc., Indianapolis, for $77,821. Burkhart said the track will be a combination of latex, asphalt mixture and recycled tires.

"It would be just like putting in a new highway," he said. The old track will be removed prior to laying the new foundation, he said.

Board members were concerned because this was the only bid they received for the work, but decided Leslie Coatings Inc. has done good work in the past for the corporation and the contract price was fair.

Board member Tom Weaver said the track was coated twice by the company in 1985 for $6,890 and then six years later in 1991 for only $250 more for the same procedure. Weaver said he felt they were trying to be reputable with their prices.

"They've been working for us for several years," board member Mark Wise said.

Burkhart said installation of the new track will be this summer.

School board members approved the contract pending the work is completed this year - if not, the current track will be used for the upcoming year.
