AKRON – The Tippecanoe Valley High School art students competed in the Annual Fort Wayne Newspapers’ Design an Ad contest, which involved students in grades 4 through 12, to create an ad for 25 Fort Wayne participating area businesses. This year’s contest received 1,150 student entries. Awards were presented in three grade divisions: 4th - 6th, 7th - 9th, and 10th - 12th. Each business selected the three hand-drawn ads they felt best represented their company. These 75 ads were then presented to a panel that judged and ranked them first, second and third place for each business. The ads were broken down into each of the three grade categories and overall winners were chosen. The overall first-place winners received an iPod for themselves and a digital camera package for the school. Each overall second-place winner received a $200 savings bond, and each overall third-place winner received a $50 savings bond. TVHS art students have competed in this contest previous years and typically do well, however, this year Valley students did exceptionally well. Tippecanoe Valley submitted 73 ads and had 23 students in grades 9 - 12 win from the chosen 75 ads. Those finishing in third place were: Rashell Dunnuck, John Paul Secrest, Marissa McSherry and Derrick Cumberland.
