South Whitley resident Jorell Tucker filed paperwork Feb. 1 to become a candidate for Whitko School Board District 5.

Tucker has been the Director of the Whitley County Solid Waste District since 2006 where he oversees the operations of the county's recycling and conservation programs.

Tucker and his wife Nicole are the parents of two children, Bryce and Alyson age 7 and 5. Bryce is a first grader at South Whitley Elementary School and Alyson is in pre-school.

"I am excited about this opportunity to serve our school district and work toward providing a quality education for all Whitko students," said Tucker. "I will work hard to represent the interests of the children, parents, taxpayers and teachers who make up the Whitko Community School Corporation."

Tucker has been an active member of the community, where he has served as vice president of the Whitley County Shrine Club, member of Young Adults in Action, ambassador for the Columbia City Chamber of Commerce, member of Larwill Due Guard Masonic Lodge and is a Republican Precinct Committeeman.

He is a graduate of Leadership Whitley County and previously served on the South Whitley Parks Board. He coaches lob ball in the summer and in his free time enjoys playing in a hockey league in Fort Wayne.
