Editor, Times-Union: A recent TV interview with Donald Trump was interesting. He was saying that he may run for president. (Was it the GOP or the Democratic party he was thinking of running in?) Anyway, he says he will finance an investigation of the “supposed” birth in Hawaii. He really wants to “get to the bottom of things” before he spends his time and money running. He seems suspicious. His reasoning is, “Why would Mr. Obama spend two million dollars to keep it out of court already if he really was born in Hawaii?” I guess a few million Americans have wondered the same thing and will thank Donald Trump if he can and will finance getting the truth out on that one question, at least. But there are dozens more questions that keep coming up that are answered one way by the “White House” and then by some senators and representatives that I trust to be truthful, and in a few minutes you hear the same question answered by the other side of the “aisle” that is quite different. One of the big things that bothers me as an “old timer” born in the early ’20s is the difference between a million, a billion and a trillion. Yes, I started to college in 1940. I remember our professor of an economics class gave us each one million dollars, on paper, to profitably, honestly and sensibly spend, invest or “give to selected charities” within a certain specified length of time. Yes, it was only one measly million. But I remember it yet, after more than 70 years, as one of the most difficult assignments of my college career. I’ve never gone “bankrupt” yet, and I don’t want to. Neither do I want our nation or state to. But I understand from “those who know” that it is a lot worse than “an embarrassing situation.” And I think it’s about time that we as honest, caring citizens start “turning the heat” on those we elect to get down to business in truth and judgement day honesty with us and our kids and grandchildren. It really could be “now or never.” John Robert Boggs Winona Lake
