Truck hauling trash flips after deer enters road

Posted
SIDNEY – A deer in the road led to a semi tractor-trailer full of trash overturning.

The one-vehicle accident happened at about 11:05 a.m. Thursday on South CR 400E, 900 feet south of East CR 800S, Sidney.

The semi tractor-trailer, registered to Bell Equipment Service, Columbus, Ohio, was being driven north by John A. Perkins, 39, Auburn, on CR 400E. Perkins said a deer entered the road and he lost control of the vehicle when the tires dropped off of the right side of the road, according to a Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department accident report.

The vehicle and the trailer snapped a Kosciusko REMC power pole and then turned on its side. The trailer was full of garbage, which had to be off-loaded.

The report indicates the road’s new asphalt recently installed by the Kosciusko County Highway Department appeared to have been damaged after the truck and trailer were removed from the ditch.

Also damaged was landscaping belonging to Michael Cook, South CR 400E, Claypool.

Total damage was estimated at $50,000 to $100,000.
