Boy Scout Troop 726, chartered by the North Webster United Methodist Church, spent the week of July 16-21 canoeing down the Tippecanoe River for their summer adventure trip.
They put the canoes in the Tippecanoe River, south of Atwood, and concluded their journey with a fun day at Indiana Beach Amusement Park. The 12 Scouts and six leaders paddled more than 50 miles of the Tippecanoe River over, around and sometimes under fallen trees in the river, and struggled through the shallow, drought-stricken river.
The Scouts started their preparation for the trip in early June as they worked on their Canoeing Merit Badge on Webster Lake, learning the skills and techniques of paddling a canoe. Their hard work paid off as their trip down the river was a success.
Troop 726 meets at the North Webster United Methodist Church every Tuesday from 6:30 to 8 p.m. If your son would like to join Scouts, stop by a meeting or call Scott Fox at 574-527-1645. Boy Scouts is for boys 11-18, and no prior Scouting is required.
