Troop 715's Scouting For Food A Success

Posted
Warsaw Boy Scout Troop 715 teamed up with Owen's Supermarket, Center Street, Warsaw, and collected food during March.

Seventeen Boy Scouts, assisted by six leaders, worked three Saturdays during March bagging food in $3, $5 and $10 bags. The Boy Scouts then invited the Kroger customers to purchase a bag to help restock the Salvation Army food pantry. The Scouts stated that the generosity of the Owen's/Kroger customers was overwhelming and that the bags were sold out each Saturday.

This annual Boy Scouts of America community service event covers the entire nation in March. Most of the Kroger stores also participate. The Warsaw Owen's store is a part of Kroger's Central Division, which covers Indiana, Illinois and Missouri.

Owen's store manager Charles Neuwirth said, "After the first three weeks, Troop 715 had collected the most food in the Central Division."

Ken Locke, Warsaw Salvation Army, said their pantry was basically empty the first of the month and a nice supply was on hand at the end of March, thanks to the Scouts.

On March 29, Neuwirth told the members of Boy Scout Troop 715 that they had collected exactly $3,334 in food and that as far as he knew the Troop had collected more food than any other store in Kroger's Central Division.
