Beneath the sandstone and shale ridges of central Kentucky lies the most extensive cave system on earth. With more than 350 miles of surveyed passageways, Mammoth Cave is more than twice as long as any other known cave.
Members of Warsaw Troop 715 spent two days in August exploring the underground world. After arriving on Friday, the group of Scouts took two different cave tours totaling about six hours. On Saturday, they spent half a day canoeing down the Green River. In the afternoon, another tour in Mammoth Cave was taken.
Each summer, Troop 715 offers a number of outings to its members. This past June, some members went to southern Indiana and earned the Forestry Merit Badge as part of that outing. In July, others went to summer camp at Chief Little Turtle for a fun week. With the cave trip being the last adventure of the summer.
Troop 715 meets one hour each Monday at the Winona Lake Presbyterian Church at 7 p.m. The adult staff consists of more than 15 members for the 30-plus Boy Scouts.
