Troop 715 Gets A Night Of Cold Weather Camping

Troop 715 Gets A Night Of Cold Weather CampingMembers of Scout Troop 715 got what they were prepared for as the temperature dipped belong freezing last Saturday night.

The Scouts arrived at Scoutmaster Dick McCleary’s home around 1 p.m. They were joined by the girls of Troop 730F throughout the day.

The boys and girls worked on Tenderfoot Scout skills, such as knot tying, cooking (Dutch-oven), use of saw, ax and knife.

Later in the afternoon, Winona Town Marshal Joe Hawn, Winona officers Dave Swain and Evan Smith reviewed gun safety with the Scouts. Then with the officers observing, the Scouts used single-shot 22 rifles to shoot at targets for a “hands-on” experience.

The evening was capped off with the finished food from the Dutch-Oven cooking. On the menu was Salisbury steak, with baby potatoes and carrots smothered in a mushroom gravy. That was followed by a chocolate-marshmallow cake and a lemon-blueberry cake.

Next summer the Troop is going to explore Yellowstone and Glacier National Parks on their annual trip to the west.  Several other Troops have been invited to join them in this exciting adventure.

Troop 715 meets each Monday at the Trinity United Methodist Church on East Center Street from 7 to 8 p.m. Boys and/or girls interested in Scouting are always welcome to attend.
