Trojans Win Share Of NSC Title To Lead Local Roundup

BOURBON — The Triton boys basketball team closed out its regular season by winning a share of the Northern State Conference championship. Hosting Knox Friday night, the Class 1A No. 5 Triton Trojans posted a 60-31 victory, finishing the NSC season at 6-1, tied with the LaVille Lancers. Triton also won the NSC last year and shared it with John Glenn two seasons ago. The conference title is Triton’s sixth overall and fourth in the last five years. Sophomore Tanner Shepherd led the Trojans with 20 points, while senior Zak Shively had 16 and six assists. Triton finished the regular season at 16-5 and will take on Oregon-Davis in the opening game of Sectional 51 Tuesday at Triton High School. The Whitko boys basketball team had its five-game winning streak snapped in its regular season finale Friday night against NorthWood. In the 45-39 home loss, Whitko senior Logan Irwin netted 25 points, giving him a career total of 2,133, ranking him 23rd in Indiana boys basketball history. NorthWood received a more balanced effort, as Jakyah Qaiyim had 11, followed by nine each from Braxton Miller and Jonathan Wilkinson, as well as eight from Tommy Klem. The 11-9 Wildcats take on Eastbrook in the opening game of Sectional 23 at Norwell High School Tuesday night. The Manchester boys basketball team fell 56-51 in its final regular season game of the season Friday night. Hosting Garrett, the two squads were tied 42-42 going into the final quarter, but Manchester was outscored 14-9 in the final stanza, leading to its 16th loss of the season. In defeat, the Squires were led by Connor McLaughlin’s 10 points, followed by nine each from Derek Self and Caleb Thomas. Manchester hosts Sectional 37 and will take on Wabash Wednesday night.
