BOURBON — The fifth-ranked Triton boys basketball team got a bit of a scare from Culver, but recovered to advance to tonight’s Class 1A Sectional 51 championship. Trailing 21-17 at the half, Triton (18-5) turned things around in the second half, downing the Culver Cavaliers (11-10) by a 46-41 count Friday night in Bourbon, setting up tonight’s 7 p.m. championship game against Michigan City Marquette. Marquette Catholic reached the championship game by defeating Westville 47-42 in Friday’s other semifinal. In the Triton game, junior Clay Yeo had 23 points, increasing his season total to 584, which is already a Triton record and trails only Keith Stackhouse’s 1950 single-season mark of 617, which he set while playing for the Bourbon Comets. Along with the 23 points, Yeo also had nine rebounds, while senior Zak Shively had 14 points, three assists and four steals in the win. If Triton does prevail against the 13-9 Marquette Catholic Blazers, it would be its fifth-straight sectional title and 10th overall.
