CULVER — Through Monday’s rain clouds, the Triton baseball team was able to punch its ticket into the Class 1A Sectional 51 championship game, which had to be moved to today. After defeating Michigan City Marquette 14-2 Thursday in five innings, the Triton Trojans were off until Monday’s semifinals, which were pushed back a few hours due to rain. Once play was able to begin, the host Culver Cavaliers first took care of South Central 1-0, followed by Triton’s 3-2 win over Westville. Culver and Triton will meet for the sectional crown today at 5 p.m. back at Culver Community High School. With a win today, Triton would claim just its fourth sectional title and its first since 2008. To reach the title game, the Trojans plated a run in the first inning, then another two in the third, which were responded to with Westville runs in the bottom of the frame. The two Westville runs in the bottom of the third were the low runs of the day, moving Triton on to its third-straight championship game appearance. Cole Creighbaum had two hits, helping Bryson Mosier get the win, while Pete Kauffman had a double.
