MENTONE - Triton's volleyball team improved to 8-3 with a Thursday win over Tippecanoe Valley.
Triton won 15-5, 8-15, 15-8.
Triton's Megan Sarber had eight kills and three aces. Jessica Kintzel had seven kills, and Heather Barron had 23 assists. Chris Scott was 15-for-15 serving with two aces.
Valley's Rhonda Doud had 21 assists and served nine points. Brandi Fisher served nine points, while Brooke Fisher had two assists, four kills and seven digs. Carissa Parker had five digs. Andria Parker had nine kills, while Jennifer Studebaker added five.
Valley won the junior varsity match 15-4, 15-0 to improve to 6-4.
Valley, 4-6 overall and 0-1 in the Three Rivers Conference, is at Lafayette Harrison at 9 a.m. Saturday.

Whitko 15-11, 15-4
At North Manchester, the Squires volleyball team beat Whitko for the second time this season on Thursday and matched its 1996 season win total.
Michelle Gerber recorded five digs, two kills and 11 blocks for the Squires. Jodie Peden had six digs, two kills and seven blocks. Megan Eckert had five assists, one ace and nine points. Greta Miller had four kills and 10 blocks.
Manchester won the junior varsity match 15-10, 15-0. Jeanne Rodriguez served 16 points. Bree Day had 13 assists, and Carrie White had three blocks. Krista Micheal had seven kills. The junior varsity Squires are 3-3.
Manchester is 7-6 in 1997 after going 7-24 in 1996. Manchester beat Whitko the first time on the road on Aug. 28.
Manchester competes in the Wabash County Tournament at Southwood at 9 a.m. Saturday.

At Plymouth, NorthWood's volleyball team won its ninth straight match on Thursday. The Panthers improved to 9-1 overall and 2-0 in the NLC with the big conference win. NorthWood, Warsaw and Plymouth were viewed as the top NLC teams coming into the season.
NorthWood's Colleen Miller had seven digs and was 14-for-14 serving with two aces. Marla Yoder was 14-for-14 serving and had 21 assists. Natalie Will was 10-for-10 serving and had five kills and eight digs. Angela Hattery had nine kills and seven assists. Amy Zercher had had seven kills.
NorthWood's junior varsity team improved to 8-3 overall and 1-1 in the NLC with a 15-7, 15-4 win over Plymouth. Amy Hughes was 14-for-14 serving for NorthWood. Erin Newcomer was 10-for-10 serving with 13 assists. Kasey Chamberlin had seven assists and 10 kills.
NorthWood competes in the Concord Invitational at 8:30 a.m. Saturday.

Goshen 15-2, 15-7
At Syracuse, Wawasee's volleyball team pulled within one game of .500 with a Thursday win over Goshen.
Lydia Carpenter had four kills and four blocks for the Warriors. Angie Beer had two kills and four digs, while Sara Frantz had eight assists.
Wawasee's junior varsity team lost to Goshen 15-12, 15-8. Viki Hunziker led Wawasee in kills and was 11-for-11 serving. Betsy Leinbach had 10 digs.
Wawasee's freshman team lost to South Bend St. Joe's 15-11, 15-11 and beat Goshen 15-5, 15-17, 15-0. Stefanie Coquillard served seven straight points for Wawasee against Goshen, while Kim Morgan served 10 points against Goshen.
Wawasee competes in the Triton Tournament at 8:30 a.m. Saturday.

At Middlebury, Warsaw's volleyball team improved to 6-6 overall and 2-0 in the Northern Lakes Conference with a Thursday win over Northridge.
Nancy Mason had nine kills, while Shanna Smith added four. Alyssa Raphael, Liz Berry and Same Wideman chipped in three kills each. Brooke Sutton had 10 digs, while Smith and Berry had six each. Jessica Zaugg and Sutton served two aces. Zaugg had 19 assists.
Warsaw hammered Northridge 15-2, 15-6 in the junior varsity match. Megan Burns had seven kills, while Rachael Conley added four kills. Adrienne Wilka was 9-for-10 serving with three aces, and Ryann Jones was 7-for-7 serving with three aces. Warsaw's junior varsity team, 5-1 overall and 2-0 in the NLC, competes in the Michigan City Tournament at 9 a.m. Saturday.
Warsaw's freshman team lost to Northridge 15-10, 15-6 but beat Tippecanoe Valley 15-4, 15-11. Against Valley, Stephanie Martin served four aces, while Bethany Mann had three. Kristen DeGeeter had three kills, and Erin Cook added two. Warsaw's freshman team has a 5 p.m. Thursday match at Plymouth.
The varsity Tigers compete at Columbia City at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Kari Wortinger's 40 for Wawasee again earned her medalist honors.

At Nappanee, Wawasee's soccer team won its first NLC game on Thursday.
Niko Ioannou scored an unassisted goal 12 minutes into the first half. Four minutes later Ioannou hit a shot that the NorthWood goalie stopped. But he was off balance, and his momentum carried him into the goal for Wawasee's second score.
Justin Bell made his first varsity start for the Warriors and had seven saves. Sophomore defender Kyle Swihart turned in a solid performance.
"It was nice to hear the kids laugh after a game," Wawasee coach Paul Boyd said. "This win will get the juices flowing again."
Wawasee's junior varsity team moved to 2-0-2 with a 4-0 Thursday win over NorthWood. Fifteen different Warriors combined to fire 29 shots on goal. Sam Shipley scored two goals in the first half and assisted on another. Alex Ioannou had another goal as Wawasee took a 3-0 halftime lead. Cody Silva scored a second-half goal. Wawasee goalkeeper Tom Leary recorded a shutout on nine shots by NorthWood. The junior varsity Warriors host Garrett at 12:30 p.m. Saturday.
The varsity Warriors, 2-5, have a 5 p.m. Wednesday match at Columbia City.

Warsaw's junior varsity girls soccer won their first match Thursday.
Amanda Bonham anchored Warsaw's defense and held Concord to only two shots on goal, while Warsaw's offense bombarded the Concord goal with 15 shots. Carlie Shaffer played a strong game at wing, collecting two assists.
Kady Clevenger and Ashley Woodward scored goals.
Warsaw, 1-3-1, has a 5 p.m. Tuesday match at Elkhart Memorial.

At North Manchester, Josh Peden rushed for 165 yards as the Squires moved to 2-0 after blanking Whitko on Thursday.
Manchester's Klay Bechtold was 5-for-6 passing, and John Sommer scored a touchdown. Klint Rupley and Dan Wright each had four tackles for the Squires. Wright also forced two fumbles.
Manchester's offense tallied 280 yards.
Plymouth 16, Warsaw 8
Plymouth scored 16 points in the first half and held on to beat Warsaw's freshman football team on Thursday.
Each team had five turnovers. Warsaw's Jon Dock and Josh Buck had interceptions. Warsaw's defense also recovered three fumbles.
Warsaw scored its only touchdown in the third quarter on a 1-yard run by quarterback Jared Scrafton. The Tigers scored a two-point conversion on a pass from Scrafton to Justin Miller.
Warsaw, 2-1, plays Fort Wayne Northrop on Thursday.
