BOURBON – First-year Triton head coach Ron Brown led his Trojans to a 26-20 win over Caston in their season opener, as well as the first game in their new conference, Friday night. It was a tale of two halves. In the first half, the Caston Comets rushed for 148 yards to the Trojans’ 101. The Comets had a huge night of offense from Brayton Jellison, who had 22 rushes for 112 yards. On the very first play of the game, Triton’s Jeremy Jones ran for a 56-yard touchdown only seven seconds into the contest. Despite the sudden success, the Trojans found themselves in a 12-7 hole at the end of the first quarter. Brown said the Trojans were not executing their blocks in the first half. He said stopping the run game in the second half helped the Trojans prevail. “The kids said they would put their foot down and execute and do what they needed to do,” Brown said. “That’s what happened.” Brown also said they are working to improve each week, and he expects each of the players to set up plays for each other and different players will have big games, similar to quarterback Jordan Anderson’s performance Friday. “We’ve been practicing for four weeks, we decided there was going to be a change,” he said. In the second half, the Trojans held the Comets to 65 rushing yards. The Trojans, on the other hand, rushed for 136 yards after the intermission. Anderson rushed for 142 yards in the win, while senior running back Jeremy Jones added 114. There were also two costly Comet turnovers in the second half, leading to a pair of Triton touchdowns. Brown said the new conference is something that will get the team to improve each week. The Trojans have three huge games coming up and Brown said the team is still going through adjustments. Some of the 19 players are playing the game for the first time. “Every week, a different kid will be making plays for us,” he said. Triton is in action again Friday when it hosts LaVille.
