Triton To Regain Tax-Exempt Status

Posted

BOURBON - With the final draft of corporation bylaws complete, Triton School Corporation will soon regain its tax-exempt status.

The corporation recently learned that the Indiana Department of Revenue could not find any record of articles of incorporation or bylaws. The IDR declined to renew Triton's tax-exempt status without further legal paper work.

The proposed bylaws are available for public inspection from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays at the administrative office for the next two weeks.

Superintendent Rex Roth said the document will be given a first reading and likely be adopted Nov. 5.

The board on Tuesday briefly discussed the document prepared by the school's attorney, Roy Burbrink. Board member Robert Huffman suggested a change in wording from "regular meetings which shall be held at least two times every month" to "regular meetings which shall be held at least once every month." The board approved the change.

The board met with Roth and Burbrink Sept. 30 to go over the proposed bylaws. Once the legal document is approved, the Triton School Corp. will be eligible for tax-exempt status.

New signs at the junior-senior high school will be posted to help alleviate the illegal and improper parking problems.

Around the horseshoe drive, the yellow painted markings of the fire lane will be widened and signs posted marking the area "No Parking This Side" because of the fire lane. In the handicap zoned parking area near the school more spaces will be painted blue and signs indicating restricted parking will be posted.

The area is being used as a dropoff/pickup area for students, people are parking near the building but out of the restricted spaces, and others are illegally parking in the restricted handicapped spaces. New signs will be posted at the end of the drive "Handicapped Parking Only - Tow Away Zone."

The changes will be made by the end of October.

In other business, Roth reminded patrons that the following TV and radio stations are used by the corporation to announce school delays and closings: WNDU, WSBT, U93, Sunny 101.5, WTCA and WRSW. The decision to close or delay school is made no later than 6:30 a.m.

The breakfast program is canceled when there is a one-hour delay; the breakfast program and morning kindergarten are canceled when there is a two-hour delay.
