Triton Tennis Team Leads Roundup With Win At Valley

AKRON — Playing at Tippecanoe Valley Tuesday, the Triton boys tennis team got a 4-1 victory. For Triton, it got its wins from Dean Howdeshell and Jared Fisher at No. 2 and 3 singles, respectively, as well as its No. 1 doubles team of Jeff Ross and Pete Kauffman, and the No. 2 tandem of Darren Harrell and Alex Eib. Valley’s victory came on the No. 1 singles court, where Nick Kindig was a 6-2, 6-0 victor. Against one of its Northern Lakes Conference rivals, the Warsaw boys tennis team defeated Northridge 3-2 Tuesday in Middlebury. The Tigers won on both doubles courts, as A.J. Herendeen and Sam Rice won 7-5, 3-6, 6-1 at No. 1 and Connor Singrey and Will Petro were 6-4, 6-1 winners at No. 2. The winning point came at singles, where Evan Miller battled back from a 6-0 opening-set loss to win the next two 6-1, 6-0 over Josh Garfein. The 11th-ranked Warsaw girls cross country team posted a pair of Northern Lakes Conference wins Tuesday in Elkhart. Led by senior Ashley Erba’s new course record time of 17:38, the Lady Tigers defeated Elkhart Memorial 24-31 and Concord 15-48. Along with the defending state champion’s record time, Warsaw’s Sarah Ray finished third (19:51) and Hannah Dawson was fifth (21:04).
