Triton Teacher Contracts Have July 1 Deadline

Triton Teacher’s Association RepresentativeAnita Orcutt spoke at the corporation meeting Monday night, informing the board that the teacher contract re-negotiations must be ratified by July 1.
Orcutt stated teachers would like the contract to stay status quo. The board is waiting until Monday to hear the proposed cuts that the state intends to implement before they determine whether or not the board will negotiate the contract.
The board approved the Destination Imagination team to travel to Knoxville, Tenn. for the Global Finals May 23-29.
Jean Yeazel, Tippecanoe Valley teacher and a Triton student-parent, stated the DI team teaches the students so many valuable lessons including listening skills, oral speaking skills, and presentation. Yeazel commended the program stating that her daughter has benefited a great deal, and will continue to attend Triton as long as the program flourishes. Triton students that are attending the Finals are Thomas Eiser, Jacob Stouder, Ethan Yazel, and David Stewart.
Triton student Nate Spangle presented the board the trophy the Triton Technical Team won at the IMSTEA Super Mileage Challenge.
Lisa Eiser, DI coach and parent expressed her gratitude to all parent and teacher volunteers for the extracurricular clubs that the students are involved in.
The board  accepted the batting cage donated by Hensley Fabricating and Equipment Co.
The board approved the following personnel changes:
– Linda Bowdler’s request to access the maximum days available to her (20) from the sick bank to finish out the present school year for her medical leave.
– The hiring of Mary Hayes as the junior high girls softball coach for the 2011-2011 season
– The hiring of Jill Finely, Curt Kreft, Laura LaMaster, Laura Reese, Shawna Shively and P. Watkins as summer school teachers for the 2010-11 school year.
– Hiring Denise Shafer, Pat Shearer and Brittney Slaymaker as summer school instructional assistant for the 2010-11 school year.
– Richard Ander’s request to hire one part-time summer custodian.
– The acceptance of the resignation of Sam Davis as varsity wrestling coach effective immediately.
– Termination of employment of Gary Clarkson, technology director, effective June 30.
Anita Orcutt added that, “Gary Clarkson is the best we have ever had.” Board member Jerilyn Anders opposed the resignation and termination of Davis and Clarkson, and voted “no” on both motions.
