BOURBON – Triton’s wrestling team hosted and won the first-ever Hoosier North Athletic Conference tournament Saturday. Two Trojans, Malachi Greene and Gage Waddle, were champions at 120 and 160 pounds, respectively. Greene is now 30-4 for the season, and Waddle is 32-2. Bryce Swihart (23-6) was second at 113 pounds, with Adonic Salinas (126 pounds), Nick Harker (152), Vincent Helton (170), John Salinas (182), and Ryan Horne (285) taking third-place finishes. Warsaw 6th, Wawasee 7th At NLC Tourney ELKHART – Warsaw junior Kyle Hatch remained undefeated at 138 pounds for the season, and won his third straight Northern Lakes Conference tournament title at Elkhart Memorial Saturday. He was joined by Wawasee’s Tristin Ponsler, the gold medalist at 132 pounds. Elkhart Memorial won the team title handily over NorthWood. Warsaw was sixth in the team standings, Wawasee seventh. Hatch beat Memorial senior Blade Corpe 13-6 for his conference title, Ponsler downed Warsaw’s Kameron Hile 3-0 for the title. Wawasee’s Braxton Alexander was second at 113, as was Warsaw’s Andrew Brock at 220. Warsaw’s Anthony Penn was voted Honorable Mention all-conference by the coaches. He’s been unable to wrestle this season due to injury, but was a 30-match winner and NLC champion last season. Both Warsaw and Wawasee will compete in the Plymouth Sectional on Saturday.
