BOURBON – Superintendent Jeremy Riffle updated the Triton School Board Monday on the progress of some projects on the school corporation campus over the summer.
The tennis courts all match now and “look great,” he said. Fences that were damaged from an EF-1 tornado in April are being installed and repaired. The elementary school roof replacement has been complete. The fire suppression system at the junior-senior high school has been installed. Upgrades to the school corporation wifi is in the process of being complete.
Also, Riffle said “teacher trial devices” are being distributed. The school corporation is looking at ways to eventually eliminate desktops within all classrooms. He said school corporation administrators are looking at a Microsoft device that can act as a teacher’s desktop but also be a little bit more mobile with instruction in the classroom and be wireless as well. There will be six devices that are eventually going to be deployed during the next school year.
In other business, the board:
• Heard registration for the 2025-26 school year is 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. July 23 and noon to 6 p.m. July 24.
• Approved paying Morris & Sons $479,540.98 from the rainy day fund to replace the elementary school roof. The rest of the $845,725 quote will be paid through bond money.
• Approved to raise the micro-purchase threshold up to $50,000. Riffle said it needs annual approval.
Business Manager Tom McFarland said with federal funds, there are micro purchases, which means “you can just go out and purchase small purchases” instead of getting three bids. By raising the thresholds, it allows the school corporation to do things like multiple repairs throughout the year.
McFarland said the $50,000 is cumulative throughout the years.
• Approved a quote of $73,750 from Hostetler Lawn and Landscaping to work on the junior varsity baseball field.
• Approved the resignation of Stephanie Andrews and Brandy Hall as elementary instructional assistants, Steve Linville as an elementary custodian, Troy Sherk as a corporation computer technician and Hannah Baker as a fifth-grade teacher.
• Approved the hiring of Krystalyn Mondy and Rick Yarbrough Sr. as instructional assistants; Lisa Hammon and Stephanie Andrews as a substitute teachers; Joshua Taylor as a fifth-grade teacher; Lexie Albright as a fourth-grade teacher; and Denise Terry, Roger Terry and Aaron Haines as show choir volunteers.
