Triton Suffers Fourth Quarter Shooting Blues

HAMLET - The Triton Trojan boys' basketball team lost to Oregon-Davis 52-48 in its season opener Tuesday.

The Trojans led 42-36 after three quarters, but they shot themselves out of the game in the fourth quarter. They hit just 2 of 12 shots, but Oregon-Davis made 6 of 11 to come from behind to win. The Bobcats outscored Triton 16-6 in the final quarter.

The big turnaround came with two minutes to play. Triton, down one point, missed a layup. Oregon-Davis' Chad Dickson followed that Triton miss with a three-pointer to put the Bobcats up by four.

Corey Monesmith, who was 8 of 22 from the floor, led Triton with 23 points and eight rebounds. Scott Blackford added 12 points.

Concordia 46

At North Manchester, the Squires girls' basketball team won its first game of the season by beating Fort Wayne Concordia Tuesday.

Sophomore Megan Eckert hit 6 of 7 shots from the field and 6 of 6 from the free throw line to lead the Manchester with 21 points. Jodie Peden added 14 points, seven rebounds and four assists.

Manchester, 1-1, has a 6:30 p.m. game at Rochester on Monday.

At Mentone, Tippecanoe Valley's girls' swim team lost its opener to NorthWood on Tuesday.

Valley placed first in two events. Shanna Dunnuck won the 100 freestyle with a time of 1:03.27, and Eve Boggs won the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:51.54.

Valley, 0-1, has a 6 p.m. meet at Knox on Tuesday.
