Triton Students Retake ISTEPs

Posted

BOURBON - Triton students retaking the ISTEP test fared well in the math section but fumbled in language arts.

In math, 16 of 20 students passed. In language arts, three of 12 students passed, said Rick Dehne, Triton Jr.-Sr. High School assistant principal.

Students taking the test were juniors and seniors.

In another matter, superintendent Ted Chittum warned the school board Monday about a potential 10-cent increase in school breakfasts and lunches next year.

Chittum said he would rather raise costs with "small increases annually."

In other business, the school board:

• Approved the 2002-03 school calendar.

• Approved hiring Rodney Isaac Younis as the varsity football coach. He will also teach physical education and health.

• Accepted a Plotter - "a large printer" - as a gift donation from Speicher Fields and Associates, Mishawaka.

Triton School Board members are: president Kevin Boyer, secretary/treasurer Larry Lemler, Dave Shively and Steve Blackford. Corporation treasurer is Janet Barker. Superintendent is Ted Chittum. Vice president Steve Feldman was absent.
