New Triton Jr.-Sr. High School business teacher Tracie Vermillion introduced Triton business students to the world of DECA competition. DECA prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs for careers in marketing, finance, hospitality and management in high schools and colleges around the globe. Triton students learned a lot of business practices as they presented their role plays to the judges in their first competition. The goal is for some students to make it to the state competition next year. Six members of DECA competed in the District 2 competition in Elkhart Jan. 16. Students were given role plays in which they had 10 to 20 minutes to prepare their responses to present to the judges. Students who score in the top three of the competition in their respective categories move on to the state competition in Indianapolis. In Triton's inaugural year for DECA, students gained knowledge they will put to use for future competitions.
