Triton Shooters Gun Down Tippy Valley

Posted

BOURBON - No matter what the Triton Trojans did or tried, they couldn't make their shots Friday night.

They shot a season-low 33 percent from the field and lost a 65-59 shocker to Whitko.

Twenty-four hours later they made up for the misses.

Triton made 22 shots from the floor and missed but 10 in a 67-41 Saturday rout over Tippecanoe Valley. Triton boys' basketball team improved to 14-4, while Valley fell to 9-9.

Hitting 22 of 32 shots put Triton at a season-high 69 percent.

Triton coach Kevin O'Rourke studied accounting at Ball State, but even he hadn't crunched the numbers. All he knew was 22 of 32 sounded pretty good.

"I don't know what we shot, but I know it was a very high percentage," he said. "That made the game seem more lopsided than it was, because we shot so well."

Valley stayed with the Trojans the first half by holding the ball and running the clock down. Without suspended starters Jeff Brown and Nick Stutzman, making an already thin bench even thinner, the Vikings spread the floor and handled the basketball during each possession as if they were carrying gold.

The Vikings kept it close and trailed 24-21 at halftime.

After settling for the three-point lead, the Trojans fired away early in the second half.
