Triton School Board Talks Tech

Posted
BOURBON – Triton Director of Technology Justin Mort gave a PowerPoint presentation outlining how the funds received from the $70,000 Assisted Tech Grant would be used.

Mort is working non-stop to get the technology department up to speed.

Included in his outline of projects that are currently in the works are: four wireless access points; 27 Daktech PCs; six interactive whiteboards; 41 Kuno Androids; and six document cameras.

All classroom computers are up and running. Twenty-six iPads will be in the classrooms next week. The library has 18 working machines.

Carl Hilling, superintendent, thanked the board for their hard work during the technology work session, and said that they are looking into the development of a technology bond.

Mort also has revamped the school website, and implemented several upgrades and updates to the infrastructure of the school’s computer potential. The corporation is looking forward to the new and improved technology opportunities for the students.

Guidance counselor Hugh Rettinger gave a synopsis of the corporation’s SAT/ACT testing scores and participation. Last year, Triton had a record amount of students taking the tests – 58 percent. National average is 68 percent.  Corporation test scores ranked slightly behind the national statistics, but programs are in place to help to increase those numbers.

Elementary School Principal Jeremy Riffle was excited at the 95 percent parent/teacher conference turn-out.

Riffle is working with board members and 15 parent committee members on a “Safe Route to School Grant” that will look into the safest way to transport children to and from school. All means of transportation are being looked at.

The board recommended the approval of Ashli Faulkner as volunteer basketball assistant, and Ted Grubbs as volunteer wrestling assistant for 2011-2012 season.

Also, the board accepted the resignation of Allen Whittaker and Carolyn Alexander as National Honor Society advisors, effective Dec. 31, and the resignation of Terrin Meister as the girls varsity volleyball coach effective immediately.

The board approved Mary Hoard and Christiana Stout as National Honor Society advisors.
