Triton Performance Numbers Not All Positive

Enrollment at Triton School Corp., like every other school corporation in the area, is on the decline.

But so are many other statistics in Triton's Annual Performance Report.

Student enrollment at Triton School Corp. totaled 1,090 in 2006-07. That increased to 1,108 in 2007-08; but dropped to 1,079 in 2008-09; and then to 1,059 in 2009-10.

While the state average for total expenditure per pupil three-year average was $10,700, Triton spent $8,600 in 2006-07 per pupil; $8,500 in 2007-08; and $8,700 in 2008-09.

The state teacher salary range minimum was $24,133, but Triton's was $31,543 in 2006-07 and 2007-08; and increased to $33,789 in 2008-09.

The yearly report also provides the teacher salary range maximum. While the state maximum was $84,686, the maximum for Triton was $57,042 in 2006-07 and 2007-08, and increased to $61,105 in 2008-09.

Down at Triton is the percentage of students in special education and gifted and talented.

In 2006-07, there were 13.8 percent of students in special education. That dropped to 12.7 percent in 2007-08; and down to 12.5 percent in 2008-09. The state result is 17.5 percent.

During the 2006-07 school year at Triton, there was 13 percent of students in gifted and talented; down to 11 percent in 2007-08; and dropping again to 6 percent in 2008-09. The state average was 14 percent.

As in other area school corporations, the percentage of students receiving free lunches/textbooks has increased at Triton. In 2006-07, it was 27 percent; 35 percent in 2007-08; and up again to 38 percent in 2008-09. The state average is 44 percent.

Below the state average of 4.2 percent is Triton's percentage of limited English proficiency students.
