BOURBON - John Parker, with Hanover insurance Co., presented the Triton School Board Monday a proposal for insurance coverage comparable to the casualty, liability, and workman's compensation policy that the school corporation has had in the past.
The board approved the new quote, which was $13,000 less expensive than previous years, and switched to Hanover.
Mike Emenacher, agricultural science teacher, was featured for this month's "Triton Spotlight."Emenacher's slideshow highlighted many of the activities that the students participate in, including a FFA convention in Indianapolis. The groups had an opportunity to do a rafting event, which included instruction in forestry, soil sampling and testing. They researched the mussels in the Tippecanoe River, and attended chain saw and gun safety classes.
Emenacher reported the fruit sales used as a fundraiser increased from 350 cases last year to 1,200 units this year.
The board approved several personnel changes. Ryan Meister was hired as the seventh-grade basketball coach, Joey Potter as the eighth-grade basketball coach, Sue Duff as instructional assistant in the elementary school, Joanne Dean as instructional assistant in the elementary school, and Denise Schafer will replace retiree Lynn Gross as the cafeteria and playground supervisor.
Gayle Perry, who has been a staff member for 22 years as the physical education teacher and girls volleyball coach, will retire as coach but will continue teaching.
The board approved the change in Triton Junior High School counselor Christy Cordell's contract adding one more day to her work week.
An anonymous check in the amount of $1,500 was approved to help fund Peter Foster's music program.
Ted Chittum's report included the adoption of the collective bargaining agreement with the Triton teachers'. Board members Jerilyn Alders and Rodney Kreft acted as board representatives and liaisons.
Miss Indiana Nicole Rash will be at Triton Elementary School Friday to visit with students that also are patients at Riley Hospital for Children. Triton currently has six students that are patients. Rash is planning on speaking to the second-graders through sixth-graders about personal character and integrity.
