BOURBON - The Triton School Board Monday approved the adoption of new mathematics curriculum for kindergarten through grade 12 classes.
The Saxon Math Program was adopted for kindergarten through sixth grade. Triton Elementary School teacher Jack Carpenter told the board the program was the first choice of nearly every grade level after evaluating several programs.
"I've had the opportunity to work with Saxon for about five years now, and I'm totally in love with it," Carpenter said.
Among the curriculum's strengths, Carpenter listed its constant review and reinforcement of concepts and skills, consistent progress monitoring and excellent alignment with state standards. Carpenter also said Saxon's tests are more comparable to the ISTEP than any other company's.
Saxon also was selected for several seventh grade through 12th grade math classes, along with American Book Co., Prentice Hall and Key Curriculum Press.
