Monday's high school girls golf match between the Triton Lady Trojans and Whitko Lady Wildcats was one both would like to put in the rearview mirror.
Triton prevailed on Rozella Ford Golf Club's par-35, front-nine with a 220, while Whitko shot a 271, but the winning score wasn't too impressive to coach Jack Carpenter."A 220, for this being our home course, is probably a little high," Carpenter said. "A 210, a 205, on our home course is going to be a great score on our home course. This is probably one of the longer courses they're going to play."
Emily Duff managed the course the best in the morning match, shooting a 48.
Following Duff's score for the Trojans were Aubrey Boardman's 53, Olivia Reichert's 58, Sydney Gochenour's 61 and Taylor Fisher's 81.
With all the girls struggling, it was really no surprise that only three holes were parred on the day, all of which came on the course's par-3, 118-yard No. 2.
Accomplishing that feat were Boardman, Gochenour and Fisher.
"Now all we want to do is get better and better," Carpenter said. "If I could ever get three girls in the 40s, it would be a very good day for us."
Both teams had multiple girls reporting scores with double-digit holes, which is
an easy way to run the high-scoring rounds.
"The short game always seems to be a struggle," Carpenter said. "They seem to give away a lot of shots around the green. Our goal is to hit the ball solid and hit is straight and hit the two- and three-footers."
For Whitko, it was Taylor Snavley that led the way, shooting a 54, followed by Chloe Nestel's 64, Emily Weigold's 73, Hannah Himes' 80 and Taylor Pottenger's 83.
