Triton Girls Knock Knox

BOURBON - The Knox girls' basketball team turned the ball over 37 times en route to a 64-43 Tuesday loss to Triton.

The Trojans, who had only 13 turnovers, put the game away early, taking a 32-14 halftime lead.

Triton's Rachael Yeiter finished the evening with 20 points, four rebounds and four assists. Teammate Audra Meinert added 14 points and led the Trojans with eight rebounds. Megan Sarber led Triton with seven assists and four steals.

Knox won the junior varsity game 35-25.

Triton, 5-1 overall and 3-0 in the Northern State Conference, has a 6:15 p.m. Monday game at Tippecanoe Valley.

At South Whitley, the Wawasee Warrior freshman girls' basketball team dropped to 0-3 with a Tuesday loss to Whitko.

Vicki Hunzicker scored five and Jennie Gunden four for the Warriors.

Wawasee hosts a 6:30 p.m. Thursday game with Goshen.

Boys: Lakewood Park 98,

Lakeland Christian Academy 47

At Lakewood Park, the Lakeland Christian Academy boys' basketball team dropped to 1-4 with a Tuesday loss.

Ryan Andrew scored 25 and Aaron Jones 15 for LCA.

LCA hosts a 6:30 p.m. Friday game with Community Baptist.

Wawasee 49, Goshen 15

At Goshen, the Wawasee Warrior wrestling team upped its record to 6-1 overall and 4-0 in the Northern Lakes Conference with a Tuesday win over the Redskins.

Wawasee won 11 of the 14 matches.

Wawasee's Darrell Carr (135 pounds), John Merchant (145), Shaun Belin (160), Tom Bryan (215) and Jamie Salazar (275) each pinned their respective opponents.

Warrior teammates Chet Wortinger (103), Kevin A. Carr (130), Ben Heimann (140), Jason Carr (152), Rob Burke (171) and Jesse Leonard (189) each won by decision.

Wawasee's junior varsity team stayed undefeated with a 42-23 win over Goshen. Warrior junior varsity winners included Kevin M. Carr (112), Tim Cotton (125), Ryan Johnson (130), Tyler Cline (135), J.D. Lane (140), J.J. Davis (152) and Sam Korenstra (189). The junior varsity Warriors are 3-0 overall and 3-0 in the NLC.

The junior varsity Warriors next wrestle in the North Miami Invitational at 8 a.m. on Dec. 21.

Whitko Goes 2-1

At Mentone, the Whitko wrestling team went 2-1 in Tuesday's Tippecanoe Valley Invitational.

The Wildcats beat Valley 52-21 and beat Manchester 55-21. The Wildcats lost to Southwood 41-28.

Six Whitko wrestlers recorded 3-0 records, including Drew Shilling (103), James Baumgartner (130), Brock Waterson (135/140), Todd Grube (160), Robbie Nieto (189) and Scott Barker (275).

Barker, Grube and Nieto each have hit double figures in wins this season. Barker is 12-0, Nieto 11-1 and Grube 10-2.

Whitko's junior varsity team went 1-1. Valley beat Whitko 6-0, but the Wildcats beat Southwood 10-6. Seth Slaer (160) and Brad Sprunger (215) had junior varsity wins for the Wildcats.

The junior varsity Wildcats wrestle in Saturday's 9 a.m. Rochester Invitational.

The varsity Wildcats, 5-7 overall and 3-2 in the TRC, next wrestle on Dec. 21, when they compete in the 9 a.m. Manchester Invitational.

At Elkhart, the Triton Trojan wrestling team lost to state-ranked Jimtown on Tuesday.

Brandon Chapman (112) hadd Triton's lone win, a 4-3 decision over Charles Koecke.

Jimtown is 6-0.

"Jimtown showed they deserved their state ranking," Triton coach Sam Davis said. "We kept many of the matches close, but we could not pull off the upset victories."

Nick Lovechio and Derek Tracy won junior varsity matches for Triton.

Triton, 5-5, competes in the Caston Super Dual on Saturday.
