Triton Gets Milk

BOURBON - There's a new bureaucratic term floating around Triton Jr.-Sr. High School nowadays: "minimal nutritional value foods."

Triton high school principal Rick Dehne told the school board Monday that is the new standard for foods in the schools.

He said the state Legislature is considering keeping schools' vending machines away from the cafeterias and putting restrictions on junk food sold in vending machines.

A recent addition to the traditional candy bar and soft drink machines at Triton is the vending machine selling milk. Milk meets the minimal nutritional value food standard.

The school board received a $500 check from the Marshall County Dairy Association for the purchase of the milk vending machine. The state also chipped in half of the machine's cost.

The new choice is profitable, Dehne said. Since Jan. 15, students have bought more than 1,200 bottles of milk.
