Triton Discusses Traffic Safety

Posted

BOURBON - The Triton School Board faced a light agenda Monday. The main order of business was a discussion of traffic arrangements at the elementary school.

Superintendent Ted Chittum said officers of the Bourbon Police Department contacted him with concerns about student safety on the streets west of Triton Elementary School, where parents drop off and pick up their children from school.

The street on the west side of the school has no sidewalks and traffic increases during school dismissal time. Chittum said the combination of increased traffic and students walking in the street makes it even more dangerous during inclement winter weather, when snow is piled along the sides of the streets.

"This concern has always been there, but it gets worse," Chittum said.

Chittum said the board will work with the police department on finding a solution to the safety problem.

The next meeting of the Triton School Board is Dec. 6 at 7 p.m. in the Administration Office.
