CULVER – The Triton boys basketball team stopped a five-game losing skid Tuesday night with a 55-39 win over South Central in the opening round of Class 1A Sectional 51 at Culver Community High School.
The Trojans (7-14) and Satellites haven’t faced each other since the opening round of the 2016 sectional, which the Trojans won.
Triton outscored South Central 27-9 from behind the arc and shot 60 percent for the game from three-point range.
South Central (5-18) saw its season slip away early in the first quarter, trailing 13-9 after the first eight minutes and trailed the rest of the game.
Triton led 27-18 at the break after shooting 53 percent from the field. The team went 4 of 7 from long distance in the first half.
The Trojans kept pace coming out of break and scored 15 points in the third and 13 in the fourth.
Triton’s Beau Hepler led all scorers with 13 points and Ross Johnson tallied 10 points and seven rebounds.
The Trojans play Oregon-Davis on Friday in the semifinal round of sectional. Oregon-Davis topped Triton 42-31 in the regular season matchup on Nov. 22. Tipoff is set for 6:30 p.m.
