BOURBON - Newly elected Triton School Corp. board member Amy Middaugh took the oath of office at the board meeting Monday night.

The board also elected Dick Towbridge as president, Rodney Kreft as vice president and Deb Shively as secretary.

The following appointments became effective as well: Janet Barker as the treasurer; Mark Wagner as corporation attorney; Shively, Discussion Committee representative and ISBA delegate/legislative liaison; Kreft and Jerilyn Alders as student handbook representatives: and Shively and Middaugh as textbook adoption representatives. The board approved the Board salaries to be maintained at current levels.

Bob Ross, junior and senior high school assistant principal, presented the board with a new software program that would be compatible with the current iStep remediation program. The new software is designed for students that are failing in the mainstream environment. It is a Web-based program that would allow a student to earn credit toward passing grades via the Internet classroom. Initial orientation cost for the program is $5,100 with individual licensure for each subject area at a cost of $237.85 each.

The remedial Web-based program would allow for the students to earn credit during the academic year, as opposed to attending summer school programs.

Jeremy Riffle, elementary school principal, reported they are ahead of schedule in the second-grade laptop program. The laptops are on site and Riffle is pleased with the progress that they are making so far.

Riffle also asked that the board revisit the full-day kindergarten program. The state is issuing $58 million in grant monies to implement the full-day curriculum. Riffle would like to write the grant requesting the money while the state is still allocating funds. The board agreed they would look into the possibility during an executive session.

The board approved hiring Karyn McFarland as the girls junior varsity softball coach, and Christina McIntire as a full-time bus driver. They also approved the reappointment of Maxine Berkey to serve another four-year term on the library board.

The board also approved Principal Mike Chobonov's request to start working on the upcoming driver's education program to start in March.
