Triton Approves Increase In Lunch Prices

Posted

BOURBON - Lunch prices for Triton Elementary and Junior-Senior High School students will increase by a nickel next year.

Monday, the Triton School Corp. Board of Trustees approved raising lunch prices from $1.25 to $1.30.

Superintendent Rex Roth said the prices were last raised a couple of years ago. "Raising a nickel wouldn't be a huge jump," said Roth.

He provided the board with a survey of area cafeteria prices for comparison. Tippecanoe Valley prices are $1.30 for elementary, $1.40 for middle/high schools; Rochester, $1.25 and $1.40; Plymouth, $1.50 and $1.60; and Delphi, $1.40 and $1.65.

Student handbooks for both the elementary and junior-senior high school also were approved.

Board member Steve Feldman asked if there would any problem with the change in dress code.

The change states: "Dress slacks, jeans, pants, etc., should not be worn at school if the length causes them to drag on the floor" and also prohibits bandannas.

"I wouldn't think so - hopefully," Roth said of problems with the dress code change.

In other business, the board:

• Approved the reading textbook recommendations for grades kindergarten through six.

• Approved Ted Doty to coach summer baseball; Lori Shafer, substitute bus driver; Mary Ann Broeker, high school librarian; Claudia Senff, substitute bus driver; and the resignation of Gabrielle Fisher, custodian.

The following retirements were also approved: Roth, effective June 30; Joanna Lemler, bus driver; Phyllis Faulkner, first-grade teacher; and Alta Grossman, high school librarian.

• Approved changing the title of the computer lab supervisor to computer technician, with an increase in duties.

"We thought that might be a more appropriate title for these positions," said Roth. The employees also will receive an increase in pay of $1 per hour.

The board has to have an additional reading of the job description change before it is approved.

• Roth reported the school corporation lost about 15 percent ($2,500) from the school textbook reimbursement contingency fund for the school year.

"That's probably not going to get any better," he said.

• Junior-senior high school principal Ted Chittum reported the academic awards program is Friday at 6:30 p.m.

The senior trip will be June 4.

Members of the school board include Kevin Boyer, Steve Feldman, Steve Blackford, Dave Shively and Larry Lemler.
