BOURBON - Triton School Board passed the first project in the three-phase proposed capital improvement projects Monday.
Project one is to upgrade the air handling units and replace the gym lighting in the junior-senior high building built in 1968. The elementary school was built in 1991, and will get an oversized water heater to replace the old one, and also new gym lighting.
The new air handling upgrade will replace the existing ventilators with variable volume units, providing consistent heating and cooling. The old fixtures take 10 to 15 minutes to warm up before they are able to illuminate at 100 percent.
Curt Pletcher, with Umbaugh and Associates, explained the $1,975,437 project expenditures, while Tim Pitts, building engineer with EMCOR, guaranteed an annual savings of $37,000.
A total of $1,951,537 will be funded by the First Mortgage Qualified School Construction Bonds of 2010, with the reaming $23,000 coming from the Capital Project Fund. Umbaugh's Issuance costs, and EMCOR'S engineering fees ($159,037) are included in the total estimated cost. There are no hidden fees.
Repayment will not commence until 2018.
The board has a three-year capital project plan, but this approval is only for phase 1.
